NEW! SAS LAUNCHES THREE INTERNATIONAL ROUTES TO SCANDINAVIAN MOUNTAINS AIRPORT – SÄLEN TRYSIL

SAS is launching new routes from both England and Denmark to Scandinavian Mountains Airport. As of 28 December, SAS will begin offering flights from London on Saturdays. An additional route departing from Copenhagen will open on 29 December, with flights departing on Thursdays and Sundays. SAS will also begin servicing a route departing on Sundays from the Danish city of Aalborg on the same date.

The launch will make SAS the first airline to fly international guests directly to the new airport, located between Sweden’s and Norway’s largest ski resorts, Sälen and Trysil.

“It’s enormously gratifying to present the first international routes servicing our new airport. As an example of the benefits, the travel time to our skiing destinations for a family visiting us from the Copenhagen area will now be 8 hours shorter. The route to and from England will also open up a whole new market for us, which will be an exciting development to follow.

Short flights and transfer times combined with a first-class family holiday product will give us a major advantage in the alpine winter holiday market. From an environmental standpoint, it feels especially good to know that SAS will be servicing these routes using the most modern plane on the market, the A320neo, with its low noise and emissions levels.”

FLIGHTS BEGIN 22 DECEMBER 2019

Scandinavian Mountains Airport – Sälen Trysil, located between Sälen and Trysil and just 20 kilometres or so from Sälens Högfjällshotell, will open to travellers on 22 December 2019. First to announce new routes to and from the airport is airline BRA, which will begin offering flights from Stockholm/Bromma, Gothenburg, Malmö, Ängelholm and Växjö.

“We at Sälens Högfjällshotell and the hotel Gammelgården have longed for this day. Until now, the only travel option available to our guests has been to drive. While we expect to see many more new airline routes open up in the future, it’s already been confirmed that our guests will be able to reach us by air from Bromma, Malmö, Ängelholm, Gothenburg and Växjö this coming winter season. Our hotels, restaurants and our fantastic mountain are ready and waiting to welcome them,” says Thommy Backner, CEO of Scandinavian Resorts.

The new airport will open up a fast new way to visit the Scandinavian Mountains all year ‘round, with both regular and charter flights to the destination.

“The new airport opens up incredible opportunities and I believe we’ll see a new pattern of consumer behaviour emerge among our guests in the private and conference business areas, both within Sweden and abroad. Our hotels are just 18 minutes’ ride from the airport and stand ready to offer guests the full range of our unique services.

We believe in Sälen and in the airport as an important growth engine for our entire region. We’ve been involved with the airport as a project owner from the very start, and today we feel pride in what we’ve been able to accomplish together,” Backner concludes.
